The team starting at the southern end for each half begins the serve.
The players on the serving team rotate while the receiving team remains in the same positions.
Serving: To begin each point, the referee blows a whistle. The server, who must stand behind the baseline, serves the ball directly over the net. You may serve from anywhere on the base line. As long as you are behind the service line or baseline, you can serve over the net. You cannot be outside the sidelines. If you step on or outside the sideline, that is an illegal serve. If you step on the line, and then make contact, that is an illegal serve. You can serve, jump, and land inside the court as long as you contact the serve before you land in the playing area. You can serve from anywhere, right, middle, or left and keep the ball in between the two antennas on the nets representing the sidelines.
If the serve goes directly over the top of the antenna, and then lands in the court, it is ILLEGAL because it passed over the out of bounds marker. Antennas are actually infinite out of bounds lines and the ball cannot cross over them.
Teams earn the right to serve by winning the rally. At this point, a change in service occurs and the new serving team must rotate before serving. A different server must serve after each rotation.
Each team is allowed a maximum of three (3) successive touches with the ball before it must go over the net.
Teams only receive one point if they are SERVING and win the game point. The ball is out when it contacts the ground outside of the court lines.
The ball may touch any part of the body and it counts as 1 touch.
The ball may contact the net while crossing the net, including during a serve.
A ball hit into the net is playable and may be recovered by the receiving team as long as it’s done within the allotted three team contacts.
A player may hit the ball within the playing space of the opposing team (reaching across the net) as long as they do not make contact with the net before or after the hit.
Players are NOT allowed to spike or block the ball off the serve.
Any ball during play that crosses outside the antenna is deemed out.
For 6 on 6 beach volleyball, there is no attack line. If you are playing, you can hit from anywhere. As far as rotations go, you rotate clockwise in a circle and the person that ends up in the back right of the court, is due to serve. You rotate into that one spot and then that person serves.
You can make contact with the ball with any body part except on the serve where you must make contact with the hand or arm. If the ball lands on the line, the ball is ruled in and the point awarded to the appropriate team.
You are not allowed to touch the net while in the action of playing the ball.
Blocking a ball, counts as one of the teams 3 contacts.
After the block, any player can make the next contact with the ball, including the blocker.
SPIKE RULES
Players are allowed to spike from anywhere on the court
Players are NOT allowed to spike or block the ball off the serve
MORE RULES
There is the possibility of a drawn match on the Saturday and points will be awarded accordingly. There are NO draws on the Sunday.
In the event of a close game on the Sunday, once the siren sounds, the teams will complete the point being played.
If this results in a drawn game, the Coota Cut Throat rule comes into play, which is the next point wins regardless of who is serving.
